Arcandra Tahar Dismissed by Jokowi as Indonesian Minister

Arcandra Tahar might be the first US passport holder who became Indonesian minister, well for only 20 days. Born in Padang city, West Sumatra province (propinsi Sumatera Barat), Arcandra Tahar last hold a prestigious position in Houston based oil-petroleum company as President. In July 2016, Arcandra appointed by Indonesian president Jokowi as Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources. A move that typical by Jokowi in appointed the talented individu in his cabinet.

However, soon Arcandra face the polemic as he found to hold United States of America passport. The US passport believe to issued to Arcandra in year 2012. As Indonesia did not applied bi-nationality citizenship, the US passport immediately believe to cancel the Indonesian passport. In several source, Arcandra Tahar reported to already picked to withstand his Indonesian citizenship.

Since the polemic become too strong, Jokowi finally dismiss Arcandra Tahar as Energy and Mineral Resources Minister in the evening of August 15th, 2016. Arcandra Tahar will no longer hold the minster post started Agustus 16, 2016. His position will temporary fill in by coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Panjaitan.

The polemic had since become social media sensation because Arcandra Tahar is indeed a worthy person to fill the Energy Resources. Dr. Tahar, who is expert in Oil knowledge, supported by many Indonesian netizen because his background is extra ordinary high profile. A common defender come up with a rhetoric that Dr. Tahar willing to sacrifice his high profile company president position with big salary just to became Indonesian minister, who salary just top around IDR 40 millions, (approx. USD 3800).

Liem Sioe Liong Wafat Minggu 10 Juni 2012

Liem Sioe Liong reportly passed away on Sunday, June 10th 2012 in Singapore hospital. He was famously known as one of richest business man from Indonesia.

Sudono Salim Chinese name Liem Swie Liong or Lim Sioe Liong.born September 10, 1915, an Indonesian Chinese ethnic of Hokchia (Fuqing, Fujian) origin, is considered one of the most successful entrepreneurs in Indonesia. At one point in time, he was believed to be the richest individual in Indonesia.

His businesses were mostly without competition, due largely to his strong ties to then-president Suharto and co-ownership with prominent politicians and public figures. He monopolized the Indonesian cement and flour industries, among many others. He is a major shareholder in Indofood Sukses Makmur, a company that manufactures one of the most popular instant noodle brands in Indonesia, Indomie. Another of his assets come from his holdings in Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT).

In 1998, he gave up his majority stake in Indonesia's largest private bank, Bank Central Asia (BCA), to the Indonesian government, as a way to repay the huge loans that his family-owned company Salim Group has incurred. The monopolistic nature of his businesses left many grumbling, and during the Jakarta Riots of May 1998, his mansion in Jakarta was razed to the ground. He has resided in countries like Singapore and the United States since then. Most of his businesses have been run by his youngest son, Anthony Salim.


Liem Sioe Liong aka. Sudono Salim, telah meninggal dunia di usia 95 tahun di rumah sakit Singapore.
